Vt. appeals court ruling on Yankee nuclear plant (Boston Globe)

MONTPELIER, Vt.—The state is appealing a federal judge’s decision blocking its efforts to close the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant.

Attorney General William Sorrell announced Saturday that his office had filed a notice of appeal with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York of Judge J. Garvan Murtha’s decision last month.

“We have strong arguments to make on appeal,” Sorrell said in a statement. “The district court’s decision improperly limits the State’s legitimate role in deciding whether Vermont Yankee should operate in Vermont beyond March 21, 2012.”
