U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders says a transportation funding bill up for debate this week would provide $408 million to address a backlog of repairs needed for Vermont’s roads and bridges.
Sanders joined Vermont Transportation Secretary Brian Searles at a news conference Monday to talk up legislation that Sanders help draft as a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.
Sanders called the two-year, $109 billion transportation spending bill modest, but said something needs to be done now to shore up the country’s failing road and rail networks.
