Sanders supporting Yankee appeal (WCAX)

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) is praising Vermont’s attorney general for continuing the court battle with the Vermont Yankee nuclear power plant.

In January, a federal judge blocked the state’s attempt to prevent the nuclear facility from renewing its operating license. Lawyers for Entergy argued that legislators tried to shut down the plant based solely on safety concerns and a federal judge agreed.

But Sen. Sanders says there are other issues at play. “There’s no question that in terms of economic issues, in terms of how a state wants to go forward, in terms of energy, sustainable energy, energy efficiency, states do have that right,” he said.
